Rib Off 2009

A few of the Acacia guys have had an annual Rib Off for the past couple years. This year Joseph joined the competition! Last year after we had a bbq party the people decided to have this year's party in our backyard. We are happy hosts and therefore eagerly accepted! We'd love to do it again too!

The gist of the gig is this: the guys prepare the ribs and each family or attendee contributes a side dish to share.

Of course it's a big event and requires careful preparation. The ribs have to be just right and grilled to perfection. It takes HOURS! (Sorry a few of these photos are kinda blurry. It was really humid outside.)

Joseph had a great plan for his ribs and smoked them using his box for wood chips, there on the left.

I learned it's really important to watch the clock and check those dudes out every so often, but not too often because then all the good smoke will get out!

Joseph had to switch out and re-soak his wood chips several times throughout the process.

Unfortunately, Joseph's ribs took much longer than expected and as a result his were not a part of the competition. Next year! These are the plates set out for the Lady Judges with tags numbering them 1, 2, and 3. We tasted, enjoyed and completed our voting ballots while the guys waited anxiously in the living room.

And the winner this year is....

Jeremy!!! Way to go! They were delicious! Jeremy beat his older brother who had been the sole victor in competitions past.

There is word that the women are going to have our own cooking competition and perhaps Chili will be the menu! Looking forward to it! Sounds fun!!
